At Devon Wooden Boats along with our own range of boats we offer a full traditional Shipwright Service covering the areas of Dartmouth, Kingswear, River Dart, Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Totnes, Teignmouth and Shaldon in Devon from our workshops at Ipplepen. We offer a broad range of Shipwright Services from new builds to major restoration works and all aspects of general maintenance for private and commercial wooden or GRP yachts, launches and dinghies. We also undertake commissions for new build boats to the customer’s specification, working with outside contractors/companies where necessary. |

Decks and above:
- Tracking down and repairing that elusive leak that every boat has
- Re-bedding or replacing of portholes, windows, hatches and deck fittings
- Fitting of swept teak decking on both a wooden and GRP yachts
- Also ply decking with traditional paint and canvas finish
- Deck repairs from gel coat to replacing planking and re-caulking
- Rebuilding of cockpits on wooden yachts
- Rebuilding or repairing of wooden coach houses and deck hatches
- Painting and vanishing of bright work and non-slip on decks
- Fitting new or replacing old handrails

Below decks:
- Repair of damaged interior furniture including fine veneer work
- Refinishing of interior bright work
- Layout modifications and enhancements
- Single cabin or total interior refits
- Fitting of new appliances (bringing in a marine engineer or electrician for final connections where appropriate)
- Installation or upgrading of conduit for electrical services
- Removal or fitting of new fresh/waste water tanks
- Fresh water plumbing
- Fitting/servicing bilge pumps

Hull and below water-line:
- Maintenance and/or replacement of skin fittings
- Detection of osmosis or electrolysis
- Repair of electrolysis damage in wooden boats to surveyors recommendations
- Fitting or replacement of anodes
- Refastening of planking
- Replacement of planking and re-caulking
- Replacement of floors and broken frames or fitting of doublers where appropriate
- GRP, Gel coat repairs and refinishing of gel coat
- Repainting of topsides
- Replacement of rubbing strakes (wood or rubber)
- Service of seacocks and replacement where appropriate

Dinghy restoration and maintenance:
- GRP, gel coat repairs and refinishing of gel coat
- Fitting new brass keel strips to both wood and GRP
- Repair to ply and clinkers dinghy hulls
- Re-decking of wooden sailing dinghies
- Lightening of wooden racing dinghies within class rules (this will normally involve re-decking as well)
- New wood or glass/carbon re-enforced wooden centreboards and rudders for many dinghy classes
- Racing damage repairs
- Re-enforcing of deck fittings
- Complete restoration of wooden sailing and rowing dinghies
- Complete refinishing of both paint and vanish work including taking back to bare wood and epoxy priming where appropriate

Please Note: from 1st October 2014, we charge our standard hourly rate for time spent visiting all restoration projects, meetings with surveyors, preparation of estimate’s and schedule of works, the charge is then deducted in full from the first invoice. General maintenance jobs are excluded from this charge!. |
